Roots

Roots in main sewer line.

The Root of the Problem

When most people think of a sewer or drain line, they don't think about bush or tree roots. It's actually a lot more common than you think. Before you spend a ton of money on landscaping, it's always a great idea to keep your main sewer line in mind. A little bit of pre-planning now can save you costly repairs and headaches in the future.

Over the years, roots from bushes and trees will grow and slowly make their way towards your sewer lines. The water, waste, and oxygen inside of the sewer lines make it a great place to grow. Root growth will not only invade your sewer line, but can make its way towards the foundation of your home, and cause it to crack. A sewer line that is not cleaned properly with the roots removed, can get so large that digging becomes the only option.

Before you plant, think!

If you are planning on planting some trees, it would be helpful to know where your main sewer line is. Before you do anything, A Video Inspection and Location of your main sewer line is a great place to start. An expert KP Drains video technician will arrive at your house and open your sewer line. Using our state of the art video inspection equipment, we can locate the pipe in the ground without digging, and mark it for you. This makes it easy to know where to plant trees without causing a problem to your home's plumbing system.

It is also important to understand that some trees and bushes have a much more aggressive root system. These plants, even when provided with enough water and nutrients, still tend to grow into sewer lines. It may be helpful to consult a landscaping professional to know exactly what plants and trees to plant to minimize the effect on your system.

Got Roots? No Problem!

You've got roots, and the only way to fix this problem is to have them removed completely. Drain chemicals are costly, and a lot of the times don't work. When they do work, they tend to only remove a part of the root. Once the chemical can get by the root clog, it flushes out of the line.

With KP Drains, we use snaked with metal cables and blades that rip, tear, and remove ALL the roots from your main sewer line. There is no doubt that this is the best method of cleaning. We are so confident about our service, that we back all of our work up with a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.
